From bringing sunshine into cloudy day pictures to creating underwater effects, photographers can add realistic drama to their images with Photoshop. The techniques are all here, brilliantly... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I purchased this book, because I recently delved into creating 3D digital art scenes and tweaking the lighting during the postwork phase in photoshop is of the utmost importance but something I knew little about. This book helped me significantly by showing me how to do many things that I had wanted to do but couldn't figure out how to do--such as adding light that flows through windows--the way light is cast on trees and other objects. And I love the part about moon reflections and creating night scenes. This book has been very valuable to me--has improved my work and helped me grow as a digital artist. I highly recommend this book. Truly, it's not just for photographers but for anyone who does any kind of digital art.
Dramatically Altering Photographs

Lighting, like say the rays from the sun coming through a dark cloud, can be the most dramatic part of a photograph. But what if the sun isn't cooperating? Photoshop can take an ordinary photograph and make it into an outstanding picture. Photoshop has literally changed the way professional photography is done. Now half the work, perhaps more, is done at the computer. When a particular type of image is sought, the basic source picture can be modified in ways that only a short time ago were unimaginable. In this book Barry Huggins has concentrated on using lighting techniques possible with Photoshop to add highlights, shadows, heat waves, reflections, dust, fire and more to literally create an image that might be impossible to generate any other way. In each case the starting image is modified, and the detailed steps necessary are done one step at a time to produce the modified picture. Mr. Huggins shows how to do things with Photoshop that I couldn't even have imagined.
Lights, camera, PHOTOSHOP!

I can not stress how much this book has helped me. The lighting effects in here are great and they help to open your eyes to a world where you may have been blind. After reading this book, all the subtle little lighting things that people do will make so much more sense. The problem with this book lies also in what makes it good. Taking a page from Bert Monroy's "If you're going to write a photoshop book, do this" philosophy, Barry Huggins does not include samples to go along with his step by step examples. Why? because he wants you to apply this to your OWN work. So of course if you take some of the things in this book they could look different, or cheezy, or anything else. You just have to tweak it till you get it right. This isn't a student book, a beginner book, or a basic how to book. Unless you're an experienced photoshop user, you may find it frustrating in some aspects. For you, and you know who you are, this book is worth it.
Excellent Creative Use of Lighting within Photoshop

I found that the tutorials Barry creates are excellently documented, and those photoshop users (whether novice, intermediate or advanced) will all equally find ideas and theory explained well. Given that the subject matter is quite specific, I am delighted that this book serves to target such a diverse audience. It is certainly a book well worth adding to one's Digital Photographic Library.
