Book Overview

With the explosion of the Intelligent Design movement, many Americans are once again forced to take sides in the long-standing battle between creation and evolution. Yet many feel inadequately educated on the judicial process of this battle.

In Creation and the Courts, Norman Geisler offers a behind-the-scenes look at the testimonies and arguments of the prosecution and defense of the major creation versus evolution court battles. Geisler...

Geisler- rock solid as always.

Dr. Geisler very thoroughly explains the creation/evolution debate as it actually played out in the courts, vs. how it has been explained by the inflammatory headlines and stories in the major news outlets, and by activist atheists with straw man arguments against the "religious fundamentalists waging war on science." One very interesting thing I learned was that Dr. Geisler's critical and ACLU-demolishing testimony to the court in the 1981 Arkansas/McLean trial wasn't even transcribed until AFTER the Supreme Court ruled on the issue. The transcription was sent to Dr. Geisler for his signature five years afterward. I'd love to hear the real reason for that. No matter what side you take on the issue, Geisler makes very good sense and very important points that must be addressed when considering whether schools should be allowed to teach about the possibility of a creator. Carl Sagan stating that "The universe is all there is, all there was and all there ever will be" on video tape before a class full of kids is every bit as much of a religious statement as "I believe in the God of the bible." Science cannot tell us all that ever was is, or (especially) ever will be. But the concept of a first cause for an event like the Big Bang is logical and sound reasoning. Geisler points out that believing that a creator exists or existed is not in itself religion. Only when you commit yourself to believing in a specific ultimate (like the God of the bible) does it become religion. Before you make any judgements against that concept, please read it in his words. He is a much better writer than I am.

The Importance of this Work

I have always liked Norman Geisler's work. He's one of the best apologetic writers, along with theology writers, out there in the field today. I believe this book is important for every Christian to read because hopefully it will be a wake up call to all Christians. By the use of the liberal orientated (i.e. anti-Christian) courtrooms across the United States, along with the liberal oriented (again, i.e., anti-Christian) organizations like the ACLU, the liberal/humanist (same thing really) groups have been attacking in hopes of destroying Christianity. Evolution is one of their main weapons. Evolution is a haphazard jumble of theories and speculations. Evolution has no firm ground because it wouldn't even be able to stand upon a rock as it has absolutely no balance to it. And though there are many Christians who call themselves theistic Evolutionists (i.e. Christians who believe in evolution), the majority of evolution rests in the hands of those who want to try to silence and try to destroy anyone who professes themselves as Christians. Thus the importance of this book, showing how by the way of the courtroom, the humanist liberals (which are the powerhouse to the fanatical liberals) are seeking to do any sort of harm toward Christians. And thus evolution is the key. Creation science is important. Creation science is more than just faith in God through Christ. Creation science, the idea that there is a First Cause, a hand in the process of the construction of the universe and our own creation as human beings (and mind you I come to this as a Old Earth theologian), is important and should have an equal opportunity to be heard. That is why this book is important. You need to read this work. You need to see what is being done toward Christians in this so called "land of the free." You need to see how the humanist left is seeking to destroy your relationship with your children in the classrooms from elementary through college, by way of tackling Christians at the courthouse. You need to be warned about this hatred toward us. You need to be angry at this hatred toward us. And you must be willing to act with faith and intelligence toward this hatred toward us.
