not a textbook, a text book

The perfect "Intro. to Poetry" text. CREATED WRITING juxtaposes "high falutin'" poets from the canon with fresh voices from students and the underground to prove that the world of poetry is not relegated solely to the leather-elbowed tweed coat crowd, but open to anyone who has something to say and an interesting way to say it. Mr. Agostino removes the mysticism from poetry and boils it down to its essence: a well turned phrase, a sound or sight, a moment captured . . . all in a language both informative and engaging. A must for any aspiring poet.

A wonderful text book that you can actually read

Paul Agostino has taken on a subject,(poetry) which causes most to roll their eyes. However, there will be few "I don't get it"s from the readers of CREATED WRITING. The poetry is fresh and energetic, and the text that surrounds it is likewise. Agostino's writing is hip and funny, and the book reads at a brisk pace. I highly recommend this book.

This off-beat,and up-beat text uses the same traditonal elements in all poetry, but allows for the student to find ways to make poetry speak for them, and about them. An excellent text.
