The circumstances surrounding the theft of Marie Truscott's car, from behind Cranford Hall and the sequence of events that followed, create a difficult problem for all the tenants and the authorities. After Marie's Ex and her son set about bringing a new Audi estate from Germany, other legal issues arise. Marie's friendship with Stuart McCracken and Tom Johnson means the investigations go as far as the Andover army base, luckily for all concerned: Tom Johnson army veteran with a colourful history. Several of the tenants of Cranford Hall get involved in the turmoil that ensues and in spite of their amateurish help, all these threads gradually lead to one crooked mastermind and a successful outcome for Maurice Teasdale, and a sense of justice for Tom Johnson.
