Recommended reading for recovering stroke survivors

I have just read this book, one year after my own brain haemorrhage, and I would definitely recommend it to fellow stroke survivors and their families. Don't be put off by the promotional reviews of the book which in my opinion make too much of the humour aspect. This is not, as appears, a whacky comedy laughing at brain patients for the amusement of onlookers. It is simply a sensitive, touching and stylishly written account of the author's life being turned upside down by this most shocking of all illnesses, and his achievements in the long haul back to life. That said, it is a funny book - and it is classic brain humour in the face of real trauma that most brain patients I know will 'get' and identify with. Peter Swet accurately conveys how surreal, bizarre and ridiculous it feels to find oneself as a grown adult having to relearn how to walk, form a coherent sentence, and tell right from left etc. The descriptions of the other patients in the rehab hospital are very "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and really made me chuckle! The book also represents a major achievement in Peter's struggle with his cognitive impairments and is a delight to read. A positive and encouraging book, and I truly enjoyed following him on his journey.
Witty and charming, A great book!

Peter Swet takes you through each experience with wit, style and a great sense of humor. I would recommend this book for anyone, not just those who have suffered or have known someone who has suffered from this kind of traumatic injury. He successfully presents a serious subject matter that mingles with humor and hope. I'm looking forward to future works by Peter Swet.
