This is not a travel guide; it is a memoir of a gringo's personal experiences of his second life in a new land, its towns and cities, and the people who come in and out of it. There are some descriptions of prominent places that a tourist might visit, but guides like Lonely Planet and Trip Advisor will be better options for those seeking the details of where to go and what to see during a short visit. This is about my second life; my life in Spanish. After suffering the loss of my second wife, I went into a tailspin. I needed something I started traveling to Latin America with two close friends and we had some adventures, but nothing like I've had since I moved to Colombia, got married again, and met the nice, crazy, bad Colombians who have come througn my life's story here. This new life has taken a lot of getting used to, and has had its share of speed bumps. No! Speed hills is what I mean! We have lived mostly in Cartagena, but also in big cities, small pueblos and barrios, and the jungle. All have their beautiful strangeness from which adventures and stories flow.Learning how to cope in Colombia is a lot longer process than I thought. On the surface, it appears as just like life in the US, but in Spanish, but it is really much more complicated than that. The subtle differences are what get you. I've heard that the Devil is in the details. Well in this culture, the details are difficult to see and to understand. After living here for almost 14 years, I have come to love Colombia as my home, and I want to share my experiences with you. I hope you find them entertaining and informative. A lot of the stories about cultural differences in Colombia also loosely apply to other Latin Countries. I have tried to be honest, informative and sometimes humorous. I hope you like this book and the stories and information in it.
