The new new Coyote backslides into the bad bad behaviors of the old old Coyote made famous over thousands of years and thousands of fires in American Indian lore. In this book Coyote is trapped in a cage; he only gets out by giving away his soul. He learns to fish but not obey limits, so he is sent to jail. On release he takes a job digging and goes shopping. He is required to undergo counseling by a Dr Vulture, who tries to domesticate him. He gets mixed up in anti-war protests. He starts his own business as a private detective, but is injured by his cigarette lighter and a bosomy client. He has to learn to avoid an animal exterminator named Big Bob. He decides to switch lifestyle with Tick, then Termite, but that does not work out well. Then he starts a law office instead. His mate Wakanda meets a Japanese trickster Uzume and they talk about mates and trickery. Meanwhile, Coyote's companion Fox goes made after his family s denned by Big Bob. Coyote wants to help and tries to become a shaman. He learns many things, but fails. A new friend, Otter, teaches him how to play. Then, Coyote decides to market his myth. Coyote is confronted by the new gods, such as Media and Humanity. Media tries to trick him, but Celebrity intercedes, and she is not who she seems. Coyote tries to make a movie about his myth but funding is short. He visits King Salmon under the sea and has to marry his daughter. He escapes responsibility, but gets tricked by Loki. Later he relaxes by reading the newspaper. But, Rattlesnake gets revenge against two of his pups. Always the entrepreneur, he starts his own college, Koors Kollege, to get rich. He comes up with exceptional ideas, about new departments and new kinds of diplomas, as well as the homeless and community. The college has a biology department and Coyote mines it as a source for new genes that can enhance him-genes from hawk, wolf, horse, ant and others. But the effect is disappointing. Meanwhile, new enemies plot against him, just as he decides to run for congress. The new gods, other animals and the military all combine to attack him. He survives and decides to go swimming, but even then he is quietly stalked.
