Ben Matthews had always moved with great ease through life. A rodeo champion and the eldest son of a prominent south Texas rancher, he had indeed been "blessed by the gods." His fellow cowboys liked... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I absolutely LOVED this book. I couldn't put it down once the main characters were introduced (which just happens to be right away!)!!!! I found myself cheering Ben on during all of this trials and tribulations....it all seemed so real, as if I were with him in the horse barns and on the track. I am waiting for him to come knocking on this woman's door (I secretly think I fell for Ben!!). Can't wait for the next book....hopefully it will continue the wonderful story line JoAnn Guidry captures in this awesome book!!! A MUST READ FOR ALL TYPES.

Cowboy Heart a fun ride!

Even if it didn't have the word "cowboy" in the title, the cover of this book alone would have caught my eye at the bookstore. The lone cowboy riding away into the fog, sunrise just peeking over the tree line, lends a mysterious aura and made me want to see what this book was all about. Author JoAnn Guidry doesn't waste any time jumping into the action. Within the first three pages we meet main character Ben Matthews doing what he does best - rodeo - and then discover the devastating news that suddenly rips Ben's entire world and heart wide open. A year earlier he survived near-death at the horns of a rogue bucking bull and still managed to make a near-miraculous comeback to the sport of rodeo he lives for, but when it comes to matters of the heart, he only knows one survival tactic: run. And run he does. Leaving behind his best friend, Scott, and Lisa, the only woman he has ever honestly loved, Ben flees Texas and the memories there, both good and bad. His first stop is a friend's ranch in Wyoming and while that occupies his mind briefly, it doesn't hold the cure. When he returns to Texas unannounced he realizes that the emotional wall he has built opened an unexpected door for Scott and Lisa to discover feelings for each other. Obviously, this is not something Ben's battered heart can handle at the moment, maybe never. Hooking up with an acquaintance who sells pony horses, Ben travels to south Florida's race tracks. Although he initially was just along for the ride, once in Florida he is drawn to the fascinating world of racing and decides to stay. Ben's affinity for horses soon finds him with a training job and his own stable of horses. But some of the local players don't take kindly to the cowboy's success and circumstances take a dangerous turn. Ben's state of mind and ravaged heart make him both a target and someone to be reckoned with. The author has created main characters we care about, good guys we admire and cheer on, and bad guys we despise. It's also apparent that Guidry knows her subjects, both rodeo cowboys and the behind-the-scenes world of Thoroughbred racing. This knowledge is delivered quite matter of factly and never in a "preachy" way, so that readers will close the book feeling as though they have learned something, as well as experienced a good story.
Extraordinary Ride

If you love cowboys and horses, "COWBOY HEART" is a must read. Ben Matthews, a true cowboy hero, most definitely captured my heart. The journey Ben makes from physically broken cowboy to grief stricken cowboy to "comeback" cowboy is an extraordinary ride.
Cowboy Heart Stole Mine

If you like cowboys, horses, love triangles, good guys, and bad guys, then JoAnn Guidry's Cowboy Heart is a must-read. And if you're a George Strait fan, you'll have more than a little in common with the protagonist, Ben Matthews. There's always a song of George's to fit Ben's mood in his odyssey to put his cowboy heart back together again. Guidry's writing offers just enough description to put you there without belaboring the point. Her Ben is a man's man and one this woman reader fell in love with. I'm looking forward to Guidry's next book in, what I hope, is a series.
