Covid-19: Catalysis to Hybrid School Reform?

COVID-19 erupted during tempered 2020 presidential election campaign. President-elect Donald Trump and candidate Joe Biden campaign onward toward Election Day 2020 as educational leaders attempt to finesse through everyday operation of public school systems. Educators became knowledge workers overnight to self-manage, learn and develop virtual and hybrid education platforms that meet federal and state mandates. As guidelines and grants trickle down from federal to state to district level, teachers find themselves spending more time demonstrating worth and effort to maintain and operate as traditional public schools to meet federal mandates and grant requirements.Will public education face a radical reform as response to COVID-2019?This essay begins with a brief review of public school history from colonial common schools. Organizational and global theorist reviews provide an opportunity to view public education reform from various field perspectives in regards to discontinuity of traditional public education. Imagine possibilities of future public school systems that are global and virtual. It is foreseeable that global virtual public education could replace traditional public schools; however, that would require technology infrastructures and discontinuity of public schools in the United States as it is structured and funded today.
