Covering Fire: A Civil War Historical Western

By Bob Herzberg

The Civil War has begun, and one Missouri mother is about to fight a war far more personal than the battle dividing America.

As Confederate guns open fire on Charleston Harbor, Kansas-bred Mady Bishop launches an attack of her own: killing her cheating husband and returning to her four sons in Missouri. But home offers no refuge as the country descends into the violence of the American Civil War.

Ash Wilson, a ruthless Southern guerrilla chief from Mady's outlaw past, reenters her life with dangerous plans for her family. As guerrilla warfare tears through Missouri, Ash works to lure Mady's more corruptible sons toward bloodshed. To protect her boys, Mady must confront the woman she once was and decide how far she will compromise her beliefs to keep her family alive.

Then a fearless young Irish woman from New York enters their lives. Courageous enough to match Mady and determined to win the heart of one of her sons, she adds another volatile allegiance to a family already divided by loyalty, love, and war. Brother against brother is only the beginning.
