County Wexford in the Year 1902

This book does not claim to be a definitive history of County Wexford in the year 1902. Instead, I hope, it serves as a snapshot and social history of the time. I have compiled a variety of news stories which were reported in the newspapers, either locally or nationally at the time. In many of them the reader will hear the stories as told by the people involved, I have just edited the stories to construct a narrative, however, all the words are their own. This book is the third in a series which will take a look at life in the county up until the formation of the state in 1922.
Many of the stories and the people included have been long forgotten. After a great deal of research I have tried to bring variety to the stories. They include tragedy, court cases both serious and amusing, tales of local government and some of its colourful representatives as well as other stories which made the newspapers that year. I hope it gives a proper sense of the time.
It must not be forgotten that the people mentioned throughout the book were real people and I am cognisant to the fact that many may have relatives alive today. Because of this I wish to emphasise that I have made nothing up, all the material in the book comes from the pages of the newspapers, the record of the day. I do not express my personal opinion on any individuals, I am just telling their stories as they appeared at the time.
