A character-driven novel about the consequences of choices and the nature of love. Powerful but fun, a good read with a happy ending. Set in Southwest Florida, fictional characters interact with real... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This writer does a good job with character development. I was surprised early on to find myself wanting to know how the "lost boy" would turn out. I have started some of the other more famous Florida novels and quit several chapters in because I just didn't care about the characters. Simon goes into way too much everyday hygiene detail, but it seems to create a window on the ordinary day of the characters. It still annoyed me sometimes, but I read the 600 or so pages! I confess to an interest in Punta Gorda, having lived there as a child, so I liked mention of local streets and places.
Country Pride and Joy

I thought this was a wonderful book. There were several story lines intertwining. It was so hard to put down, the author conveys emotions very well. My husband read it too, it seems like a story anybody, male or female, would want to read. Modern, with a home town feel.
