Meet some of the loveable and funny village characters in Blithe Haven. A bawdy, humorous tale, in anecdotal style, of village life in this fictitious Chiltern village in 1960.
Richard Beacon, the young vicar, is one of those characters. His love life is touched upon as one of the many storylines throughout the book.
The young vicar is a keen butterfly lover who has set himself the task of following in Gladstone's footsteps to 'rescue' some of the local market town's prostitutes.
Whilst camping on the Downs to photograph butterflies, he gives shelter in his tent to an attractive young widow (Gwen) who is caught in a heavy rainstorm. She is missing a man in her life and has now set her sights on the vicar.
The villagers, particularly the older ladies, will be very pleased to see the vicar married and do what they can to help Gwen's cause
The colourful village characters, with their amusing relationships and idiosyncrasies, are a continuous source of humour.
