Book Overview

Macon County, North Carolina - 1829

Storm clouds are gathering over the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Andrew Jackson has signed legislation sealing the fate of the Cherokee, and tempers flare as land-hungry pioneers push the tribe to the breaking point. The settlers have also brought slavery to the frontier. Tensions burn between yeoman farmers and wealthy slaveholders, as fears of a slave insurrection drive draconian measures.

Counting Souls is my new favorite book, sure to become a best seller!

If you like historical fiction, Counting Souls is for you. Definitely my new favorite book, I could not put it down, every page mattered! Donald Buchanan draws you immediately into the story & deep relationships of his endearing characters. He has a gift of writing with suspense and beauty in an unmatched style to artistically bring you onto the scene. His tale is unpredictable and exposes many different ways of thinking in an era that divided. I wasn’t sure I wanted to read a book written during a time of the injustice of slavery, but was surprised instead to gain a broader understanding of social dynamics of 1829. He weaves nature into the pages in a way that soothes the soul yet doesn’t distract from the plot. I savored every page and already want to read it again. Without doubt to be a be a seller!
