Excellent Book with outstanding, clear, simple charts

I purchased this book from another site because it was at a better price but because of the review from "this site". Boy, I'm glad I did, the review told NO LIES, this is a pattern book that you really must have in your collection. I havent crossed over into quilting yet but love many of the patterns. No worries, this book is for us cross stitchers. The patterns are stunning they look complicated but are not. I have found that many of the vintage cross stitch pattern books from the 60's, 70's and 80's are simple, precise and stunning. I will always search for them first verses current patterns.
What I also love about used books are the treasures that you often find as you are thumbing through the patterns for the first time. I have found old news clippings from the 60's, photographs, family tree notes, I mean the list goes on and on. In this book I found a stunning piece of Aida cloth with one of the designs started with the needle and thread still attached. I let out the biggest squeal. The aida was soft and the colors of the thread were so vibrant and lovely. This book is now added to my top 10 cross stitch patterns that I will keep shelved directly in front of me as I work on my cross-stitch project, verses on one of my many books shelves. Glad I took a chance on this one.
History Remembered

This is an old book. It was copyrighted in 1980 and I wouldn't give it up for the world. It was $16 for it then and I'd pay more, much more, if I wanted to find an authentic cross-stitch quilt pattern book today. The finished designs are in color. The charts are not and they can be hard to read but I have made ornaments and gifts out of this book and plan on doing some more. I will probably update the colors I use but I never tire of the patterns. Perhaps that is why quilting has enjoyed such popularity over the centurys. My book is 30 years old this year but it makes me feel connected to history and that is what samplers and most decorative needlework is all about.
