Arrgh. Very Good book & yet somehow it is out of print. What gives with that?

In this book a brown bear is hibernating. When Spring comes all sorts of activity begins but apparently has no affect on Mr. Bear. The ice cracks, birds sing, crickets chirp, but bear doesn't budge. Instead a fish and a cat and a bunny stop to witness the signs and sounds of spring, and bear keeps sleeping. That is until a tiny bee's whisking back and forth draws bear from his hidey hole. Bear then follows the bee back to his hive where he enjoys something "as sweet as the sounds of Spring." What I like about this book is that it can be used as a part of a study unit on the Seasons, or the Senses. For small children there are lots of animals to study and review: bear, duck, deer, frogs, turtle, robin, blue jay to name a few. For slightly older children the book can be used to help them think about their senses. What can you hear, see, smell, taste and touch that reminds you a particular season of the year? Regarding the Reading Level: This book is a "Bank Street, Ready-to-Read Level 2 book. The publisher defines this as being "for children who are just beginning to read by themselves but may need a little help". I say bologna. This book has a lot of vocabulary that beginners won't know. Words such as: wiggling, fluttering, chirping, dewdrops, chipmunk, caterpillars, cracking, and underground. But here is a sample of text so you can judge for yourself: Could it be a cricket chirping in the weeds? A bunny heard that chirping sound. But not the bear- he was sleeping underground. Four Stars. [B+]. Nice artwork suitable for a nature book. Good read-aloud. Generally a pleasant and educational book.
