Corona Speaks... and Threatens: An Inner Journey Through Dread and Revelation

Corona Speaks... and Threatens is a journey in verse through human fragility, inner silences, and the depths of trial. The poem becomes here a language of the world - a meditation on the ephemeral, a prayer for a wounded humanity in search of meaning. At the crossroads of the spiritual and the real, these pages invite the reader to listen differently: to what silence says, what absence reveals, and what life whispers at the edge of the abyss.
Here, Corona speaks.
It first introduces itself, explains its metamorphoses, questions its nature, and gradually asserts its presence. Bold and defiant, it challenges the laws of time and space, the density of matter, and the fragile breath of life. Then come its heirs: the variants - Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Omicron - each stepping forward to recite its own litany.
But the pandemic is no monologue. Seven anonymous passersby, drifting silhouettes in the echo of dismay, reveal their anxieties and helplessness. Each, through their words and gaze, sketches an intimate map of a shared fear.
Corona does not stop there.
It turns to spiritual and philosophical figures, summoning to its tribunal the imam, the priest, the rabbi, the atheist, and the scientist. Then, in a daring gesture, it confronts the saints of the great traditions - Christian, Muslim, Jewish - in dizzying games of chess where the enigma of the sacred is at stake.
Next, it speaks to the people, giving voice to those whose professions intersect our daily lives: a homeless man, a soldier, a farmer, a mail carrier, a taxi driver, a tourist. Each testifies, with the weight of lived experience, to the shockwave shaking their inner world.
The medical world is not spared.
In exchanges at times hushed, often harsh and accusatory, Corona addresses nurses, doctors - even the Minister of Health himself.
And what about women?
They, too, have their chapter. Corona speaks to ten of them, from different cultures and lands. To them, it confides both its admiration and its warning.
The second-to-last section, soberly titled "The Twilight of the Elders," is an elegy for those taken by the pandemic - a funeral lament where raw emotion rises in memory of vanished faces, voices, and irreplaceable presences.
But every twilight calls for renewal.
As an epilogue, a song of hope rises above the tumult. It celebrates human resilience - that unyielding will to overcome, to wrest triumph from the hands of fate.
The entire work is woven in quatrains - four-line stanzas - and some chapters unfold in successive acts, multiplying perspectives and deepening the dialogue.
Happy reading.
