This is a great resource for both classroom teachers and homeschoolers wanting core instruction guidelines. It lays out, month by month, the exact topics to cover in order to achieve a standardized education from K through 8th. It doesn't demand the use of author-created materials or specific textbooks, instead allowing the instructor to use what is at hand, and tailor the instructional method to his/her student's learning style. For example, I can look up April in first grade, and have in two pages what we need to learn about that month. Part of the month's study program expects the students to read six suggested Aesop's fables, and learn to use the sayings "sour grapes" and "wolf in sheep's clothing." This book gets four stars, not five due to the scarcity of guidance in the mathematics program. A short, 10-line outline of math topics per grade is all the help the author gives you. You will need to complement the purchase of this book with a either a grade-appropriate math textbook or frequent worksheets. The teachers at our elementary school are fond of using those from edhelperdotcom.
