My doctor recommended this book to me shortly after I was diagnosed with asthma. It was published in 1981, and I bought it in 1982. I really wish I had read it sooner! My friend was recently diagnosed with asthma/allergies, and because she didn't take her disease seriously, she ended up dying from an asthma attack. It was too hard on her heart, and lungs. This book makes you take your disease seriously without turning you into a hypochondriac. This book is as relevant today, as it was back in 1981. Not a lot of new information on allergies and the book is extremely comprehensive. The only thing it lacks is more information of food allergies, but it is an excellent book for the recently diagnosed person with asthma, and allergies, and it also informs the person who has this disease a long time, and doesn't know enough about it. You learn about different geographic zones, why your body creates allergies, and how to prevent an attack, and basically how to cope with allergies/asthma. You will improve if you follow both your doctor's, and the author's advice. I did. Worth every penny, but the paperback version is cheaper. But the paper version is beginning to wear over the 20 or more years I have owned the book. So maybe the hard cover is the best.
