gimmicky, disappointing

You can often tell when someone is lacking in professional training and experience because they highlight all sorts of gimmicky recipes and tricks. The introduction of this book was very telling as the author writes about her social media presence and not a word about any training or professional experience. That alone should make this book a nonstarter but apparently the world we live in these days doesn't reward education, just likes. As in other books clearly not written by a professional, the steps given in some recipes are clumsy and sometimes just flat out make things more unnecessarily complicated. My time and ingredients are too valuable to expend much on these recipes that are clearly designed just to garner clicks and likes. There are many, many other books out there, put out by professionals in the industry, that will give you consistent, reliable results, develop better skills and are better investments for any baker's library.
