This is the story of a girl growing up in Germany who was not in a concentration camp, but whose entire life was dramatically affected as result of the persecution of the Jews in Nazi Germany.
This book touched my heart several times. I do not believe I have experienced every emotion possible by reading one book. I felt inspired, hopeful and a deep appreciation for the true meaning of family. It is rare that I read a book and want to shout "read this book"! You will not be disappointed.

Have you ever wanted to read your mother's or grandmother's diary and scrapbooks? Read this book! There are also family photos and a reproduction of a sad and creepy document that makes my spine tingle. It contains unvarnished and engaging accounts of resilience in spite of heartbreaking tragedy and the deepest bonds of family. Every page reflects a profound belief in the future.
Wonderful Story

This book was an inspiring story of courage, family and love. I think the author did a fantastic job telling the story of the ups and downs of her life and teaching us how to have a positive spirit throughout.
A must read!

I could not put this book down. A beautiful book about a woman's love of family. A true story of her experiences growing up in Germany in the 30's and how it led to new beginnings in South America and later in the United States. The author's creative personality brings enjoyment to every page. A book that is a must for all of us to read and share with our own children and grandchildren.
This is an AMAZING book!

As the Holocaust Remembrance Day (January 27th, 2007) comes upon us, I'm so glad I've had the opportunity to read this amazing book. This needs to be read by a wide audience. I've cried, I've laughed, I feel for this woman and the family she had to leave behind in Germany. I have fallen in love with her, her brother Gert, her parents, Kurt and her children... This is a story that, thankfully, was able to be told. I'm so glad her family is able to live not only in her memory, but now also forever as literature! This is a 5 star reading experience, and I want to badly to have everyone in the world read this!
