In an unexpected turn of events, 17-year-old Neil Baker finds himself in the presence of someone he believes is his grandfather, known to him as Gramps. Along the way, Neil meets Annie O'Brien, a brilliant and beautiful college coed whose strict Christian beliefs create tension in their relationship.

Thus begins an antagonistic on-and-off love drama that leads the reader through a series of bizarre circumstances with unexpected twists and turns driven by hidden problems from their past. With trials involving deception and tragedy, Annie and Neil eventually suspect they are linked in a way neither imagined. When their relationship falters, a decision over an ultimate betrayal has to be made, with a big question standing in the way.
