Conversation Pieces: Poems That Talk to Other Poems (Everyman's Library Pocket Poets Series)
This utterly delightful anthology gathers poetic responses to other poems in a dialogue conducted across space and time. Here are poems that answer, argue with, update, elaborate on, mock,... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I use this book in a literature class, but I love reading it on my own, too. It includes poems that have inspired other poets to respond, along with the response poems. The new poems can be serious, funny, sarcastic, meditative, bitter, playful or almost completely unconnected. Some are responses to responses! The poets include Catullus, Ovid, Shakespeare, Spenser, Donne, Kinnell, Byron, Williams, and a host of others, well known and less so. One of the best things about the book is its size and shape. It's small and hardcovered--a solid little handful.
Loved it!

The best anthology since the rather iffily-titled The thunder mutters. Such an original concept! Now is anyone out there planning an anthology of poems about god/s?
