We are living at the dawning of the age of computing. Most communities and individuals can accommodate gradual changes, but computing and the associated technologies of telephony and television, are increasingly driving fundamental changes, and in almost every aspect of our lives. Many of these developments are paradigm shifts requiring fundamental rethinking of attitudes that in some cases we have held for centuries.The cumulative effect will be daunting, or invigorating, according to ones point of view.While change is beneficial to the majority, a minority can often lose out, at least temporarily. Given the all embracing effect of computing on almost every aspect of our lives it would seem prudent for everyone to understand the rules of the game that computers play by.
