Hemodialysis is the heart of nephrology, and perfect mastery of it is a must for every nephrologist. Being a fervent supporter of peritoneal dialysis has never prevented me from recognizing that hemodialysis remains a cornerstone of our beloved specialty.With this book, I wanted to pass on the basics of hemodialysis, far removed from the habits of our departments, so that our young colleagues could offer quality purification to hemodialysis patients. Dialysis is undoubtedly a particularly effective extracorporeal therapy that has enabled millions of people to survive chronic end-stage renal failure. It remains the most widely used technique worldwide.Nephrologists should evaluate the dose of hemodialysis they prescribe by measuring it periodically, in order to offer quality care to these vulnerable patients. I sincerely hope that I am making an effective contribution to improving the application of the new hemodialysis recommendations.
