What happens when an average middle-school girl with a complicated home life gets magical powers she can't explain? You could save some time and just read the book to find out, or you could waste your time reading this summary. Either way, I'm sure I'll further intrigue you on the life of Jacqueline May Alba (by the way, she prefers to be called Jackie). Jackie has a normal life. Her mother abandoned her years ago, her father is barely around, and her brother is doing who-knows-what with his stupid friends. But at least Jackie's friends are the best anyone could ask for . . . well . . . kind of. Anyways, Jackie receives mysterious, inexplicable powers, but has no clue how to control them. She has to find a way to keep these powers a secret from everyone she cares about, or else something horrible could happen. Dealing with all of the stress in her life makes her feel like everything is spiraling out of control. Between her family, friends, and these crazy powers, Jackie realizes something crucial: No one has control. It doesn't exist.
