What do a pizza delivery man, a museum guard with actor's pretensions, a lawn mower who smokes the grass he mows, an octogenarian philosopher, an android call girl, and a teenage girl who uses her grandfather's simulacrum in an overly imaginative way have in common?
Continous failure theory presents us with a dystopia not very different from the current reality in which the aforementioned motley group of characters is part of a human species that continues to do everything possible to destroy itself without being barely aware of it. The paradox "change so that nothing changes", disguised as the future, is in this case a road strewn with trick mirrors that leads to an abyss where dark forces are waiting to deal the final blow to humanity. As that moment approaches, very few understand the gravity of the situation. Among them is Sisyphus Bolard, whose theory, as discouraging as it is hopeless, is the last refuge for all those who wish to justify their existence in a world that ignores them.
