Contemplative Prayer: Encountering God through Scripture, Poetry and Image

By Alison Tye

For many Christians, especially within Protestant traditions, the phrase "contemplative prayer" can evoke as much uncertainty as curiosity. It may sound unfamiliar, overly mystical, or perhaps somewhat "New Age." Yet contemplative prayer is simply an ancient Christian practice that helps us become more attentive to God's presence, quieting our hearts and minds as we listen, reflect, and respond to the Holy Spirit.

Whether you are new to contemplative prayer or have practised it for years, this collection offers an invitation to slow down and encounter God more deeply, either individually or in a small group. Through guided experiences of Lectio Divina, imaginative Bible reading, Lectio Poetica, and Visio Divina, you will be encouraged to engage Scripture, poetry, and imagery with openness and attentiveness, creating space to rest in God's presence and listen for His gentle invitation in your life.
