Containerization and serving landlocked countries in West Africa

This work, a final year thesis, is a reflection on containerization in the landlocked countries of West Africa in general and Burkina Faso in particular. The study analyzes the challenges of containerization, logistics capacities and container handling conditions. It shows that, like other countries in the world, the landlocked countries of West Africa have entered the containerization era, and the outlook for containerized flows in the region is optimistic. However, containerization rates remain low due to a number of constraints. Nevertheless, players are resolutely focused on consolidating containerization with innovations to optimize the system. The study makes recommendations aimed at improving the containerization system and enabling landlocked countries to make their presence felt. This requires the cooperation and coordination of all players, public and private, national and international. This comprehensive work is aimed at students, researchers and professionals interested in international transport and logistics.
