Good all round text

I teach a materials science course to Civil Engineering students and have had a hard time finding a book that covers the material science of our industry. This does so in a very complete and technically detailed way while remaining readable and affordable. As a textbook it lacks question and assignment sets, but otherwise it is great - highly recommend it.
