The very epitome of Redneck Noir

Ex-con stickup man & drifter Frank Cullen (Cully) gets a job chauffering a well to do small town Georgia seedy gentleman farmer Herb Dorrance and his much younger wife Michelle around. The wife's ex-husband Benny Marsh shows up a few weeks later after being released from Raiford. In very short order it seems everyone is conspiring against everyone else and working out some way to frame Cully. Marsh and Michelle want to use Cully rob the local bank and to get the contents of Farmer Herb's safe deposit box. Michelle is also working a way to frame either Benny or Cully if things should go wrong. While being seduced by Michelle, Cully falls hard for Michelles seemingly straight older sister Kristin, who also wants Cully to rob the bank. Creepy husband Herb is on to everyone and is hoping to set up a situation where Benny is killed and Cully is framed for it. If his wife dies that would be fine too. Nothing works out as anyone plans. Cons has a nice throwback feel to it - reminding one of some of Charles Williams or John D. MacDonald's better pulp efforts.

A book that holds your attention from beginning to end.

A gritty first novel by a pretty talented writer (I hear he's a great mechanic too). There are great characters (some you might even know) in this no-holds barred day-in-the-life adventure. You'll say "wow" when you're finished and will probably go out get Money Lovers and then Steal Away like I am.

Excellent noir and an amazing first novel.

This is an excellent first novel. Also read the top-notch Steal Away and Money Lovers
