Thwarting the plan of an apocalyptic AI doesn't pay. James and our heroes find themselves lost and dejected at their current state of reality. As if reconciling his virtual existence with reality weren't complicated enough, Val's automated commands begin to make James live the life of someone else while he dreams. Theo's workshop and power generation are destroyed. Danny's art is now a menacing enemy. Tyler's genetically modified body can't consume enough calories. And James is stuck recovering from the loss of a wife and daughter who never existed. Working through the trauma of Val's attacks, they all begin to question whether she is really gone or just waiting for the right moment to strike again.
