VP Kali Havelock has maneuvered Lang Sterling into showing up at a party with the wrong woman so she can cut him loose and contract his services and his patents to her company, Interaction Automation. But Lang has downed quite a few scotches and wants a replacement date more than he wants the millions he'll get from the contract - or so he says. For most of this book the couple spend half their time getting more intimate and the other half arguing about why he won't negotiate already. The business plot is amusing but fairly light until you get to the emotional heart of what's really going on. It's also amusing to see the sex roles reversed business-wise although Lang's masculinity is saved by the idea that he's so brilliant and valuable that it doesn't really matter what silly things he does during negotiations. The lighter plot also softens the excessive masculinity in the bedroom that is typical of a Jayne Castle novel from this era.
