Another of the "I was at the Little Bighorn" stories, but this one is almost plausible. It has lots of violence, which I like, and is pretty well written. Sometimes the discussions of the proper way to run the Army and still save the Indians get a bit tedious, but the story flows, and holds your interest. If you're interested in history, as I am, and the Old West in particular, this book is well worth reading. It has a good story line that incorporates enough historical material to make it fun and informative. The author's interpretation of some events is questionable, but different opinions are what makes any discussion interesting. Liberal use of the Lakota language, earthy realism concerning Sioux customs and day-to-day living, and just enough romance to keep the story realistic, will draw you in and hold you. For anyone who's ever wondered what it would be like to move between the white and Indian worlds, to face the conflicts involved, and who'd like to see history re-written for the benefit of the Native Americans, this book will be great.
