"CBT" is cognitive-behavioral therapy, and CBT is often necessary to improve one's life. I bought this book because I wanted to improve my relationship with my mother, with whom I have trouble being myself. You know, because my views aren't "acceptable" and other reprimands like that. This book presents good methods of boosting confidence to foster one's self-esteem and self-respect, but those ways also MUST be implemented to make any difference at all. The CBT that this book presents is credible & useful, but it is also comparable to a self-help book. There is a statement in this book's foreword that I believe encapsulates the book nicely: "If you read it...and let its ideas slip into your mind and then act on them, you will find that you can be a different person."

Dr Roet writes about this often elusive attribute - confidence - in his usual relaxed and often humorous style. He gently compels us to improve our confidence by adjusting our perspective; taking risks; being selfish(!) and increasing our self-awareness. I am confident (sic.) that my self-esteem and confidence has blossomed since reading Dr Roet's insightful book and by putting some of his ideas and strategies into practice. Read it - you owe it to yourself!
