The proceedings of this colloquium present the reflections of researchers seeking to establish the link(s) between the Roman Catholic Church and literature, philosophy and the humanities. Reflections have focused either on the literary representation of the Catholic Church in both Gabonese and French literary works, or on the history of its establishment in Gabon from a historical or geographical point of view. They are also a reflection on faith and scientific research. The literary representation of this church is either its valorization or its devaluation. Gabonese writers present the clergy as responsible for the training of native cadres during the colonial and post-colonial period in Gabon, or transgress the morals taught by the said church. In novels not written by Gabonese authors, the clergy is held responsible for the disorganization of traditional African society. As for researchers in the humanities, their reflections revisit the organization of the clergy, the problems between the hierarchy made up of European priests and native candidates for the priesthood.
