Confederate military history; a library of Confederate States history (Volume VIII)

By Clement A. Evans and Clement Anselm Evans

Book Overview

How did the Confederacy fight, organise, and remember? In Confederate Military History: A Library of Confederate States History (Volume VIII), Clement A. Evans gathers a rich record of the American Civil War 1861-1865 from the Southern side. History turns on hard testimony. The archive is alive here. Created as a confederate history reference collection, this multi-volume historical anthology draws on battle reports and narratives, southern generals biographies, and accounts that trace confederate army campaigns from headquarters decisions to the shocks of the line. Expect dated but revealing perspectives, recorded close enough to the conflict to retain the heat of argument and the weight of lived experience. Dip in for one battle, or read through for sweeping context. Evans, a soldier-turned-editor, shapes the material into a usable civil war military history source: clear for the interested reader, yet granular for civil war research reference and an American history classroom resource. Read it alongside the civil war official records and the Southern Historical Society Papers to compare voices within the Confederate States of America, priorities, and disputed memories. First published when veterans were still defining the Confederacy's legacy, it shows how memory was edited into record, a vital lens for later interpretation. For collectors of landmark American history, it belongs beside key Civil War memoirs and reference works. Republished by Alpha Editions in a careful modern edition, this volume preserves the spirit of the original while making it effortless to enjoy today - a heritage title prepared for readers and collectors alike.
