Charmaine has spent most of her life surrounded by death.
After losing both of her parents at a young age, she grows up fascinated by the very thing that took them from her. That fascination eventually becomes a career examining the dead, but even that isn't enough to quiet the darker questions constantly running through her mind.
She studies murder cases. Watches interviews with killers. Reads the stories of women who loved dangerous men without ever knowing what they were capable of.
Then she meets one.
A serial killer known as The Pendulum has been leaving bodies behind while the city struggles to figure out who he is. Charmaine should be terrified when his attention turns toward her.
Instead, she's intrigued.
What begins as fear quickly turns into curiosity, and curiosity becomes something far more dangerous. The closer Charmaine gets to the man behind the murders, the more she realizes that death may not be the thing she fears most.
It may be the thing she's been craving all along.
