This speech and language therapy study examines the links between disorders of complex language and executive function disorders in the post-stroke phase of vascular aphasia. Our study group comprises seven patients, between six and thirty months after their stroke. All patients suffered from residual effects of varying severity following initial aphasia of different types. We administered the Elaborated Language Test to them, along with several tests assessing various executive functions, in order to analyse the influence of executive functioning on elaborated language. We thus observed various links between these two cognitive domains, which lead us to believe that executive function disorders may exacerbate elaborated language disorders.
