I wish I had read it before.

This book is really encouraging. It helps you to select your advisor, committee and research topic. Then shows how to plan your project and finishing. I read it in two days and is worth the time and money. It is very helpful to those who think that our thesis will be a new gravitation theory or the cure for cancer. It maintains you focused. Strongly recommended for those wishing to reach a grade.

Completng your Doctoral dissertation or Master's thesis on 2 semesters or less

This book is excellent, it is motiviative, sensible, and plain common sense. Written in a manner to put everything in perspective. I advise anyone writting or begining to write their dissertation or master thesis, to read it. The writer states as we know when you are writing it is easy to keep putting things off, or procrastinating instead of using their energy to "get on with it". It is a motivation book and gives great tips on "how to" achieve your goal in the time allotted.

Good overview and extremely encouraging

Dr. Ogden's book gets down to the nitty-gritty. It's not the book you want if you're interested in your dissertation being a great piece of research. But if you're interested in FINISHING IT (and getting those three letters after your name), then its insights are very, very practical. She mentions the specifics of how to get it done with minimal obstacles. She gets into the keys of proposal, selecting the right dissertation chairperson, analyzing what you'll need to do, the stages, setting a timeline, and oral defense of the thesis. I agree with another reviewer who said her timelines were unrealisitic (Can a first time thesis-writer really collect data and do literature review research at the same time?); however, the optimism in which the book was written makes it great. Her method of analyzing other dissertations of your chairperson was a very key insight, and she sets it out there in step-by-step fashion. Simply following her guidelines puts you on the clear path towrd PhD, not ABD.

EXTREMELY HELPFUL for procrastinators

This book is a concise lesson in organization for anyone. I found it in the university library and became desperate for a copy, since I will be writing my thesis this year, and maybe someday a dissertation. Her timelines are optimistic, but encouraging.

Encouraging Book if You are a Bit Scared of Writing

I recommend this book to anyone who is a bit scared of the "idea" of dissertation writing because it encourages us that we can do it. The book is great wherever you are in the program. After seeing a library copy, I decided I wanted my copy. The book explains all steps necessary for dissertation writing yet convinces the readers how it is possible to finish it within a reasonable amount of time. The book is written for those of us who will write in traditional structure with Introduction, Lit Rev, Methodology, Results, and Summary.
