According to the very words of Gab Ezeukwu, "the Commonwealth of Nations is a free association of Britain and certain sovereign independent states that were formerly at one point in time part of the British Empire either as colonies, protectorate or trust territories". When discussing the terminology "colony" you should know it refers to a territory, area, state or country gotten by another country either through conquest, purchase, settlement or cession ... While a protectorate or trust territory on the other hand is a territory whose traditional rulers have by treaty or agreement surrendered a number of their rights of government to a foreign government, even as they keep their encoded rights and ownership of the land.
