Commercial viability of air transport industry in India

INTRODUCTION

The civil aviation industry contributes to the

national economy significantly and therefore it is of great

relevance for the country's economy. The present study is

confined only to three air corporations namely Indian

airlines, Air India, and Vayudoot. The investment involved

in these three corporations is a huge amount. Primarily

because of this reason the government has maintained its

control over the industry as yet. Public sector enterprises

often seek an excuse if they are not commercially viable by

putting forward their claims of the fulfillment of social

responsibility. This has been a favorite theme - song all

along these years since the inception of these corporations.
