This translation of the commentary by Rabanus on 1-2 Maccabees is the first ever English translation as far as I am aware of. Rabanus is the first person to write a commentary on 1-2 Maccabees. Many of the commentaries by Rabanus have not been translated into English at this point. This English translation comes from the Patrologia Latina 109.
Rabanus wrote this commentary on 1-2 Maccabees by consulting multiple historical records from ancient historians like Josephus and others, and he gives the literal meaning as well as the spiritual meaning for his interpretations on Maccabees.
