In a Tampa high school, Amber James crouches behind her desk and tells her class to be quiet. He's coming, she says, and he can hurt them.
Her twin sister makes the drive from Sarasota in under forty-five minutes. Sawyer James is a detective. She's good at it, and it's all she has. She's hunting a rapist whose attacks are getting worse. Most nights she drinks until she can't see straight and tells herself that was the last one. The hospital won't let her in to see Amber. The psychiatrist explains that if this turns out to be schizophrenia, an identical twin carries a far higher risk of developing it. Somebody on the unit is going to have to raise that with her.
