She was still trying to decide if he was just being friendly with her to learn more about Nate. Oh, she knew he still thought she was the key to contacting his brother. No amount of denial on her part had altered his initial opinion that if Kate was here at Blue Shore, Nate would soon follow. But Kate knew her happiness had started when she drove in just now and saw his truck parked in her driveway. She almost blurted it out but the opportunity was lost to the tasks at hand."I will help you unload and then dinner is ready."Kate nodded at the near miss. What would Adam say if she admitted for her, the sun only rose and set if she knew Adam was on the earth to enjoy it? Kate felt like a gauche fifteen-year-old... the same one that had fallen in love with him. Only not the same, she had tested this feeling a thousand times and it was not a first love... he was her only love. She grinned stupidly at her sorry captivation with this man standing there looking so darn attractive.She looked closer; Adam looked ready to deliver one of his amazing kisses. And his defenseless grin looked just as comical as hers! Kate laughed. She laughed for no other reason than she was finally right where she had dreamed of being for the last seven years. She laughed because she was happy. And she laughed because she was going to kiss this hunk until his eyes crossed!"Come with me. I need a hand with the unloading and I need to see if I was right."Adam followed her out the front door hoping he was right and she was issuing him a challenge. At the bottom of the steps he pulled her into his arms and still grinning at her obvious cooperation he demanded. "So what do you think you were right about? You saw I wanted to kiss you senseless? Didn't you?"Kate relaxed against his chest and invited him to quit talking by placing an index finger over his mouth and prompting. "Yada, yada, yada...""Why you!" Kate barely had time to move her finger before Adam was kissing that smile away with satisfaction. His hands pressed her to him as if she might disappear unless he could hold her captive. It actually took a minute for him to realize Kate was about to shatter his control if he didn't draw away. He admitted her challenge was throwing him off balance. The little monster knew he was hanging by a thread and she kissed him now... gently, slowly, incredibly giving him a declaration. He had to push her away. He had to see if she meant what those lips were saying."Kate, Kate do you know what you are implying, in that kiss? Do you know I could hold you to this? I will hold you to this if you aren't careful. Give me a minute to control my impulse to influence you... further."Kate smiled and rested her head above his racing heart. "How does pushing me away, influence me?""You only get away with this sweetheart because I panic at the thought of rushing you. I feel like I only have one chance with you Kate. There is too much at stake here... for me to let you handle this."
