Surprisingly good!

I received this book as a gift. I wouldn't normally buy an actionor war-type book for myself, but I started reading it and got hooked right away. I couldn't quit reading, and when I would put it down, I found myself wondering the whole time what was going to happen next. I will never listen to a world news report the same way again! It's hard to believe this is Jones' first book. I will be watching for what he writes next.

An Outstanding First Novel

Guy Jones has crafted a superb military suspense novel featuring a strong yet convincing female lead interwoven with engaging subplots and surprising twists. The cast of characters is so realistic and well drawn that they elicit a wide range of emotions from the reader. A fast-paced conspiracy teamed with a few detestable villains creates a roller coaster ride of prevarication, betrayal and hypocrisy. Comfortably Numb is an intriguing, captivating novel that is impossible to put down. It is an extraordinary mix of suspense, humor, anticipation and fear. This story was spun for the movies. I didn't want it to ever end.

For those of us that use reading as an escape from our daily responsibilities, this book makes an excellent read. From the captivating opening lines, through the daily responsibilities and risks of the main characters, to the pivotal ending, Mr. Jones weaves a high caliber adventure. Mr Jones has a passion for writing that makes it worthwile to kick your feet up, sip your wine, and read your way into a provocative escape.

This action packed book is the best I have read in years!

I just finished reading Comfortably Numb, and I'm trying to find the best words to describe how I feel about this novel. The first word that pops into my mind is "fantastic" but what I want to tell others is much greater than that. This is an incredible book by an incredibly talented writer!In short, this novel is great. Guy's writing skills are amazing. The Military language and all the technical side of it (airplane, radar's, dots and etc), can be quite complex, but he succeeded by writing this story in a simple, straightforward and readable manner that the "civilian" people like me can understand. The characters in Comfortably Numb made me go through incredible emotions of love, hate and passion just to name a few. The way he also described the surroundings of the story was done perfectly. It was not overly detailed to kill the action that was going on, some writers have a tendency to overdo that. It was so well described that often it felt just as if I was there. The story made me laugh, but it also made me cry. This is not a reproach but a compliment. Guy's power to touch me to that extent with words means only one thing, he is good! Very good!The things that Guy wrote about and included in the story, especially the political reasons that are used too often to start a war, left me with a bittersweet feeling inside. I know that most of it is fiction, but can't help wondering how close to the truth he might be. I can't help either thinking that Guy must have been exposed to this kind of stuff throughout his military career. Reading Comfortably Numb has enlightened me. I am innocent in that way that I believe or trust the people with a lot of power in their hands too much. I've never been interested in politics before, but since the terrible events of September 11, I just don't feel the same. When terrible things like that happen it makes you think. And with all is going on presently with Iraq, I can't help to be a little afraid. What is lying ahead of us? Are we closer to a war than we think?This action packed book made it very hard for me to put it down. No other book in years has had such a grip on me. Now I can't wait for the sequel to come out. This book has the power to cause a shockwave across the world!

Comfortbly Numb

This book is extraordinarily well written, the author is a born natural writer, a massive talent. It is so vivid, rich in characters, atmosphere and indomitable spirit, absolutely fascinating, once started it is impossible to put down. When reading this book it is also akin to watching a movie, the characters, everything is just so alive; all your emotions, even those you didn't know you had, come flooding out, love, hatred and despair. There is an overwhelming sense of loss when you finish it because you just didn't want the story to ever end, to let the characters go, as you had by then become a part of their lives. This is an absolutely brilliant read that will appeal to every generation, trust me; I actually had to read the book again.
