That 's What I Want

Often as I was reading, "Come to Papa," a truth presented would cause me to think, "That's what I want!" Then I would stop and ask my heavenly Father to provide it. A book's cover picture and title can make the book appealing or it can turn you off. For example, the title to the "Purpose Driven Life" really turned me off. My life had been driven by the enemy for way to long. After having begun to be led by the gentle Holy Spirit, I wanted nothing to do with a book that discussed being driven, even if it was motivated by a noble purpose. The title and picture on the cover of "Come to Papa" both made me want to read the book. The picture shows a smiling little girl resting her head on her daddy's shoulder. They have their arms around each other. The picutre on the back cover also ministered to me. It showed a dejected youngster setting in front of a grafitti stained wall. Even if we are materially wealthy, our lives are mirrored by one those two pictures. In "Come to Papa," Gary Wiens answers the question,"What is the process of filling ouselves with Him, so that our lives shine forth with the glory of the Lord revealed in our faces?" As Gary writes, "The pathways of history are strewn with the catastrophic results of people looking for nuture in the wrong places, from the wrong souces. We foolishly heed the voice of the evil one who calls us away from the truth of God's provision to things that seem more accessible." We can be addicted to so many unsatisfying counterfeits. We continually need to go back for another, often bigger fix. Work, volunteering, emotional and or legalistic religion, spending, food, drugs, alcahol, sex, gambling, etc. can never satisfy our God given longings for intimate relationship. The Father created us to have an intimate relationship with Him and His son, Jesus, and also to have close biological and church family relationships. When these relationships aren't in their proper place Gary says, "The people of God ache; we have the hunger pangs of little children who have not had enough to eat and it aches and aches. We run from one place to another, from one dry well to another, from one broken person to another, from one job promise to another, from one city another, on and on..." Sound familar? If it does, you need to read the book.

a living encounter with the Father Jesus knew

This book takes Jesus' words, "If you have seen Me, you have seen the Father" and expands them to show us a beautiful and life-changing perspective of the Father's love as seen in Jesus' life and parables in the Gospels. It exposes all sorts of false ideas I had of His love and character..many of them rooted in religion and the brokenness of this world. What a God! I pray that you will be changed by the power of His love and knowing Him in a much deeper way. This book is one of those ways. He's the Father for whom we are all longing and searching.

For such a time as this

At a time when God is restoring the hearts of the children to the fathers and the hearts of the Fathers to the children, Gary Wiens' book, Come to Papa, is extremely valuable. Gary has an understanding of the emotions that are deep in the heart of the Father. Come to Papa is full of stories and experiences that reveal the way our Abba Father truly feels about His children. Not only is He a Father full of mercy and grace, but He also is a Father Who loves to throw a party. Find a lost sheep - party. Find a lost coin - party. Find a lost prodigal child - PARTY, PARTY, PARTY!It is time for the church to experience the joy that comes from celebrating with the Father. Come to Papa will help to present a true picture of Who God, the Father, really is. When we truly know Him, then we will live according to our divine destiny in Him; His passionate pursuit and our passionate response.

In this book the author takes you to the heart of the Father

I loved everything about this book but the thing I loved the most was Gary Wiens insight into the parables Jesus told. I have read the parables many times but never read them from the perspective of what Jesus really wanted to tell me or reveal to me about the Father's depth of love for me. I never made that personal connection with the stories until this book. The Father's love for us is made real in every parable and every scripture the author has chosen to teach to the readers. If you want to understand and feel loved by your Heavenly Father in a new or deeper way than you have before I would highly recommend this book.

The Love of the Father

This is possibly the best book I have ever read in my life. Gary Wiens brings you in to a much deeper relationship with God than you could ever expect from a book. He just makes Jesus so real, it's like a personal encounter. His writing is superb! You can tell by his writing that he spends a lot of time in the presense of the Lord. He has a personal knowledge of the man Jesus, and expresses it beautifully, drawing any one who reads this book in to a deeper relationship and a greater knowledge of the Lord Jesus and just how much he wants to Father us, and most importantly, how much the Father really loves us and is devoted to us. Read this book and you will never be the same, and you will have your heart touched deeply. God Bless Gary Wiens for his wonderful writing. This is a great book for someone who already knows Jesus and also someone who is searching for Him!
