The story begins in Camden, South Carolina where the men of the Justice family were forced to flee from their own farm disguised as women. They settle in New Bedford, Massachusetts where the family grows. They lived in a neighborhood where their grandchildren were best friends with the grandchildren of European immigrants, and they all played in the streets until the lights came on. The story is about a young African American girl that goes on a journey from New Bedford, to neighborhoods in Brooklyn, New York and finally Los Angeles, California with many adventures along the way, some good and some not so good. This is a story of a young girls love for the people in her life and the love for her father that gradually turned to fear, hate, deception and thoughts of murder.
