This book makes an excellent point!

I really enjoyed reading this book. At first, I was a tad skeptical, thinking "What, only 4 personality types?" Like the "Reader from Chicago" below, I believe that the Myers-Briggs personality inventory gives a better picture since there are 16 types! Having said that, everyone is a unique individual and even with the Myers-Briggs 16 categories, those don't always fit perfectly.I'm intrigued by books that discuss different ways that people relate to the Lord. I took the "test" and I came out "Popular Sanguine" and the 2nd highest was "Perfect Melancholy". Interestingly enough, the "reader from Chicago" down below tested the same way and her Myers-Briggs type is an ESFJ and so is mine! Back to the subject at hand... I did read the whole book and even though certain sections didn't really talk about where I'm coming from at all, it helped me to understand how others may have a different format for their time alone with Jesus. And I came to realize that, to the outside observer, and in the general world, I do have the traits of the Popular Sanguine. But when I'm relating to my Lord, I'm much more of a Perfect Melancholy! Betty and Marita give many good examples of how the different types might structure (or not structure) their devotional lives and they even suggest particular books, devotionals, Bible versions/formats and even journaling techniques. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I think a personality profile with only 4 types is over-simplified, even when it is pointed out that very few people are totally one type.Thank you, authors, for writing this fascinating book! I'll look forward to more from you! Learn A Little About Yourself and be Pleasantly Surprised

This book is most helpful to those who feel that they just haven't "fit" into a particular spiritual tradition. Perhaps you think you just don't "get it" or that there is something wrong with you. Nothing could be further from the truth and this book will help you realize that. Most often, well meaning people just don't understand why you don't see things their way! Rather than suggesting alternative paths they make you feel like there is something wrong with you since you don't see things from their perspective. You will learn that by and large, we each have personality traits that explain our spiritual search. This book will help you analyze your traits and the common benefits or difficulties of those traits. You will learn about yourself and that your thougths are quite common among many others who share your traits.I would consider this book a sleeper - I doubt it will get the attention it deserves.

Guilt Relieving and Relationship Building!

What a good book for anyone who wants to grow in their relationship with their Heavenly Father! The book gives you insights on how your personality type determines the way you relate to the Lord in your devotional time with Him. It goes the distance for helping anyone who struggles with their quiet time and how they think they should measure up to the "standard." Thankfully, God created us as unique individuals and we all relate to Him in our own unique way. This book validates that that's OK. Three cheers for Betty and Marita.

A fantastic freedom to be just who you are and who He create

Betty and Marita have written a beautiful book that gives the reader the fantastic freedom to be just who they are, and who God created them to be! No more guilt for not "doing my devotions" exactly like someone else, and a real joy in being creative with the Creator...great job! And thank you so much!

This book can move you to a new level with God!

During my 23 years as a Southern Baptist minister I have found that many people try to have a devotional life that meets a "human's standard" rather than "God's standard"."Come as You Are" will help you understand how to develop a close relationship with God without a radical pesonality change. You will find that God loves you just as you are! He is your friend!
