In recent past, the hybrid technology has revolutionized the production of vegetable crops and demand for hybrid seed is continuously increasing. High production, earliness, superior quality, uniform produce and resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses are the main advantages of F1 hybrid. Hybrid of garden pea and other vegetable crops are being produced at several locations in the different states in the country. At present area under hybrid vegetable account for 10% of total area.keeping in view the dynamic need, the research efforts in various institutes has focus on development of hybrid with higher yield, vigour, uniformity, multiple disease resistance, stress tolerance, utilizing male sterility system and good horticulture traits including early maturity and long self-life. Presently hybrid technology is considered one of the important mechanisms to combine desirable traits along with mean to protect Intellectual Property Rights (IPR's) through control and protection of the parental lines by the breed
